Below are thumbnails and quick bits of info about circuitry-based instruments that I've built. Most use circuitry from kids toys, guitar effects, and other electronics, which have then been modified and circuit-bent into oblivion. Often, these found and altered circuits are accompanied by and augmented with built-from-scratch elements that can expand upon the potential of the manufactured device. The goal of these instruments, for me, is to take a manufactured electronic circuit, that is solely designed to create a certain sound other a certain circumstance, and to modify and convulse the purpose to that of collaboration. All of these pieces interact and mesh together to form a cohesive, rhythmic, and musical conversation which is at once intriguing, hilarious, powerful, dissonant, and strangely human.

Drum Box. 2009. This unit started out as a Casio drum synth toy from the late 80's. It was pink and green, but that's about all I remember.

Feedback Box. 2008. This unit is sadly no longer with us. There is, however, a video of it running before is imploded. The circuitry was folded into the Dark Solution pedal.

Triple Wheel Box. 2009. As the name implies, this unit was made up of three identical sections, originating from three identical "driving" toys that I bought in a "buy two, get one free" deal at Walgreens. The unit produced warbling droning looping siren and car sounds that where oppressively massive. The circuitry from this unit has been folded into my modular system.

Circuit-bent Yamaha DD5 drum machine. 2010. The Yamaha drum machines from the 80's seem to be a pretty hot ticket for solder-gun wielding noise maniacs like myself, and I can see why. Glitching, crunching synthy rhythms abound.

Dark Solutions pedal. 2008-2009. Distortion and fuzz tones, pretty unruly. From a Barbie Karaoke machine, which is a beautifully chaotic circuit to work with.

Modular system, 2010.  I never know when this will be done. I've built this unit into a suitcase for (moderately) easy portability. The individual modules are all modified toy circuits or electronics kits that have been extended. More information on the individual modules and the system in general can be found here.
